St. Louis, Mo (KMOX) — Chris Carpenter at age 38, will make his first rehab start for the Springfield Cardinals, the St. Louis Cardinals AA affiliate, Kevin Wheeler of KMOX reported. This will be his first time throwing in a competitive game since Oct. 21, in the 2012 National League Championship Series in San Francisco.

Carpenter is expected to throw roughly 60 pitches, Wheeler reported through Twitter (@KMOXWheeler). Last season Carpenter threw only 20.2 innings, including his three starts in the 2012 postseason. In all six of the games he started in 2012 he won only once, in Washington in the Division Series, and had a combined ERA of 2.95.

Listen to the Cardinals pre and post games shows on KMOX 1120 for audio of Carpenter and Manager Mike Matheny talking more about Carpenter’s rehab.
