ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) –The fourth of July maybe done and in the books, but summer concerts are just kicking off.

The 2013 Celebrate St. Louis Summer Concerts, presented by the Fair Saint Louis Foundation, features two weekends of free entertainment at Soldiers Memorial.

The first concerts take place this weekend July 12 and 13 followed by the next set of concerts the following weekend, July 19 and 20. Gates will open at 6 p.m. each evening and will feature two local bands prior to national headliner.

Friday, July 12th from 6 am until Sunday, July 14th at 3 pm

Concert Details

This Friday, July 12, country crooner Josh Turner is the accomplished singer behind top-selling hits such as “Would You Go With Me” “Firecracker” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance”.

He was inducted into the Grand OleOpry in 2007 and is currently one of the youngest members. He also appeared as George Beverly Shea in Billy: The Early Years a biopic about evangelist Billy Graham.

Josh’s latest album Punching Bag was released on June 12, 2012. “Time is Love”, his first single from the album, was named by Billboard Year-End as the biggest hit of 2012.

Saturday’s concert, July 13th features The Urge, an alternative rock band from Saint. The Urge has toured with 311, Incubus, and KoЯn and mixes multiple genres including hardcore rock, heavy metal, reggae, funk, and rhythm and blues.

They were formed in 1987 and released their first album in 1989. Their hit single “Jump Right In” was featured on MTV’s Daria as well as The Real World. In 2011, they announced they would be releasing new music for the first time in 10 years.

The band has recorded a live CD All the Way Live and a DVD Live and Direct that showcase their performances at the Pageant in November 2011. Since releasing their single “Say Yeah”, The Urge has performed at Knotfest as well as on the Norwegian Pearl Cruise Ship for the 2013 311 Cruise.

The following weekend concerts feature Somali rapper, singer, and songwriter K’NAAN on Friday July 19th and Alternative rock and Christian rock band NEEDTOBREATHE will perform Saturday July 20th.
