ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Cardinals announced today that they have recalled pitcher Carlos Martinez from Memphis and optioned pitcher Michael Blazek to the Triple-A club.

The righthanded Martinez was 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA in eight starts for Memphis.  This is his second call-up with the Cardinals, making seven relief appearances earlier this season, striking out nine batters in eight innings of work.

Martinez actually began the season in Springfield with the Double-A Cardinals.  He was 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in three starts.

The Cardinals say Martinez will join the big club for tonight’s series opener in Chicago.
