UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOX) - A University City doctor has been sentenced to one year and a day in prison and must pay restitution after pleading guilty to defrauding Medicare and Medicaid.
Dr. Wit Jamry, 62, of Dr. Wit-Internal Medicine Professional Geriatric, P.C. pleaded guilty in February to one felony count of health care fraud. He was sentenced Thursday.
According to prosecutors, Jamry billed St. Louis patients for services at times when he wasn’t in town or even in the United States.
Jamry allegedly made 276 false claims worth $26,227 while away on trips to Poland, Mexico, and elsewhere.
Prosecutors alleged that Jamry also billed the government $92,773 for patient visits which lasted more than an hour despite the visits not lasting that long.
