MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) – A Granite City, Ill., man was charged, Monday, with a felony of false personation of a police officer and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Jason Yarber, 37, was arrested after the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call July 12 around 4 p.m. at a home in Collinsville, Ill., in reference to a subject possibly impersonating an investigator with the sheriff’s office.
The complainant told police that she was contacted at her home July 11 by a man who identified himself as a Madison County Sheriff’s Office Detective and said he was investigating a theft involving a neighboring residence. The man identified himself as an investigator and provided the complainant what he identified as his phone number.
Investigators tracked the phone number and were able to follow it back to Yarber. Police say an investigator located Yarber at his home on Friday and was later arrested.
Police say Yarber was in possession of less than one gram of Methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
The investigation revealed that Yarber’s ex-wife lives in the home he told the complainant he was investigating. Investigators suspect that Yarber’s motivation for the act was to gather information on his ex-wife. There’s no evidence to suggest Yarber intended to victimize the complainant.
Yarber’s bond was set at $50,000.00. Yarber posted bond and has been released from the Madison County Jail.
