Positive Signs in MidAmerica Airport’s Quarterly Update

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (KMOX) – The St. Clair County Board has received a quarterly update on MidAmerica Airport and it appears there wasn’t any bad news.

County Board Chair Mark Kern says work continues to build on a partnership with Ningbo Lishe International Airport in China.

“We have had planes come in through Asia to test the market and we continue to work with Ningbo Airport who is, at this time, building a larger air cargo facility at their airport,” he says.

Kern says the current expansion at MidAmerica by Boeing and North Bay Produce will mean 60 more jobs and sufficient facilities for exports to Asia.

A consulting firm was hired three months ago to develop MidAmerica as a cargo hub for Midwest companies and Latin America to reach customers in China after years of financial losses at the airport.

The St. Clair County Board approved $3.65 million in bonds in March to help MidAmerica grow, a move considered controversial by some at the time.
