EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – An Edwardsville couple who pleaded guilty in connection to their 2-year-old son’s drowning death have been ordered to spend two years on probation.
Twenty-six-year-old Emilie Pinski and 27-year-old Thomas Pinski pleaded guilty Wednesday in Madison County to a misdemeanor child-endangerment count. Emilie Pinski also pleaded guilty to a felony count of child abandonment.
The parents were accused after Lukas Pinski was found in a small lake small lake on Cherokee Trail near the family’s home on May 2, 2012. The toddler died four days later. His twin brother was found wandering nearby as well.
Authorities alleged the boys were allowed to routinely wander from their home through a basement window and lived in what a prosecutor called unsafe and shameful conditions, that included piles of human and animal feces, broken glass, debris and trash.
Immediately following the incident last year, the other children (two boys, ages 3 and 6 and two girls, ages 4 and 1) were removed from the home and have remained in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
