Mayor Paul’s Personal Defense Attorney Applying to be Ellisville’s City Attorney

ELLISVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) — Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul wants to hire his personal defense attorney as the new city attorney.

Isn’t that a conflict of interest?

KMOX caught up with Mayor Paul after the City Council meeting, and asked him if he thinks that’s right.

“Outside looking in, it could be perceived as a conflict,” Paul said. But a good attorney is hard to find, according to Paul.

“If I could unilaterally make a decision, I would always hire Chet Pleban. For the rest of my life.”

The Mayor says there are six applicants for the job, Chet Pleban’s firm was one of them, but the council will interview all and will vote on the ultimate decision.
