ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — The number of students applying to transfer is skyrocketing at a stunning rate, according to Mehlville superintendent Dr. Eric Knost.
“We have a running tally that shows each grade level and currently what the enrollment is,” Knost says. “Those numbers on a daily basis continues to grow.”
Students can apply to go anywhere, but Riverview Gardens is sending buses to Mehlville.
Regionally, Knost says tuition for all transferring students out of Riverview and Normandy is so far running $17 million.
He worries that the sheer cost of tuition that Normandy and Riverview will have to pay could bankrupt the two districts.
Knost says most local educators thought that the flow of transfer applications would have slowed by now, but instead it keeps growing.
