ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – An event promoter says 50,000 seats have been filled and 14,000 remain for an August 10 international soccer match at the Edward Jones Dome.
“I think it’s just another chance for St. Louis to shine and we continue to look at it as we’ve got another match that might come down here in another few months,” Vicki Lynch, a consultant for event promoter Relevant Sports, said.
The match between Inter Milan and Real Madrid will be the second high-profile international soccer match in St. Louis this year. On May 23, Chelsea played Manchester City in front of a large Busch Stadium crowd.
“We certainly have exceeded the numbers at Busch Stadium,” Lynch says of the Inter Milan and Real Madrid match, “but, you know, we’ve just got more seats.”
While the teams will be journeying from across the Atlantic, another important aspect of the match will be making a much shorter trip.
“They’ll bring in just huge rolls of sod. We’re actually going to be getting it, the plan is to get it from a sod farm down in Columbia, Missouri. So keeping it all in the state,” Lynch explains.
KMOX will air the match live on August 10 prior to a Cardinals-Cubs game that night.
