ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The St. Louis Treasurer’s Office began its enforcement of parking meters downtown Saturday and the figures are in.
Apparently a number of people were either unaware or didn’t care that the grace period over downtown parking meters had ended.
The Treasurers Office says 210 tickets were issued Saturday. The $10 tickets double if they aren’t paid within two weeks.
Jared Boyd, Chief of Staff to Treasurer Tishaura Jones, says many businesses are pleased with the change at downtown meters because it promotes turnover.
Parking in the city is still free between seven o’clock p.m. and eight o’clock a.m. as well as on Sundays and holidays.
