MoDOT Beginning to See Signs of Potholes

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – If your car is damaged by a pothole, does the Missouri Department of Transportation have to pay for repairs?

The answer is: probably.

“If we are negligent and don’t get to the repair work, we are absolutely liable for that,” says MoDOT District Engineer Becky Allmeroth.

But Allmeroth says the department has to know about the potholes before they can respond.

“We really encourage our motorists, if you see anything out there or start to feel a little bump, call our 888-ASK-MODOT number,” she said.

With the extreme heat of last summer, the season produced a high number of potholes.

Allmeroth says they are beginning to see signs of trouble this year and MoDOT crews are out daily looking for them.
