FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOX) – The site of the old Kmart on highway 159 in Fairview Heights, Ill., is being transformed.

City officials say the old Kmart, across from St. Clair Square, will become home to at least three stores.

Sports Authority will move from its current location across I-64 to the new site, taking up about one-third of Kmart’s 115,000 sq. ft. As for the current Sports Authority site, a new tenant will be announced by the end of August.

“There are a couple of prospects that are in the wings right and candidly we hope to have a lease agreement in place prior to Sports Authority moving,” says Mike Malloy, Director of Economic Development.

Malloy says two other tenants are planned for the old Kmart building.

“Additionally we’re going to have an organic food store, which should be announced, name wise, on August 8th,” Malloy says.

He says the third tenant, another national retailer, should be announced by labor day.
