ST. LOUIS (AP) Time has been tough on the 40 sculptures an acclaimed St. Louis artist donated to help start one of the first modern sculpture gardens in the county.
The late Ernest Trova best known for his “Falling Man” series donated the sculptures to the Laumeier Sculpture Park in suburban St. Louis almost 40 years ago. But over time, some fell into disrepair.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/13MYShi ) reports that St. Louis County tried to sell most of them last year. Then, some of Trova’s supporters found out.
It turns out that the original contract between the county and Trova only allowed for Trova’s works to be loaned, not sold.
The county is now taking loan requests. Trova’s relatives say they’re happy his works will be on display.
