‘Smash-and-Grab’ Burglars Hit Midtown Store

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The tires of a stolen Dodge Dakota were still spinning Monday morning as police investigated a “smash-and-grab” burglary in Midtown.

It happened at Sam Light Loans on the corner of Olive St. and Jefferson Ave.

“You see that I’ve got a bunch of gates up here,” Ronnie Light, the store’s owner, said. “I thought that would maybe stop it. Evidently, this particular time it did work because it doesn’t look like anything was taken.”

The truck’s owner says it was stolen from in front of his apartment building and was followed by a red vehicle which may have acted as a getaway vehicle.

A red truck was found abandoned at I-70 and Lucas and Hunt. Police are trying to determine if it is connected to the burglary.
