STERLING, Ill. (AP) - Convicted murderer Nicholas Sheley has filed for divorce in a handwritten petition.
Sheley is accused in the deaths of eight people in a 2008 killing spree. He has been convicted of murder twice and is to stand trial in January for four Rock Falls killings. The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports Sheley filed the documents in Whiteside County.
Sheley cites irreconcilable differences and says in the filing that the couple has been separated for five years. They have two children, an 8-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl. Holly Sheley testified against Sheley at one of his trials. Sheley is serving two life sentences at a Joliet prison in the deaths of men from Galesburg and Sterling.
Holly Sheley does not have a listed telephone number in Illinois.
