More Security Coming After Second String of Muny Break-ins

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – You can expect to see more on-duty and off-duty police officers around the Muny after a second set of car break-ins there last night.

Two weeks after nine employees’ vehicles were broken into on the lower lot, thieves broke into five customers’ cars on the upper lot between 7:00 and 10:20 Wednesday night.

Muny Operations Director Sean Smith says the theater will be adding off-duty officers to provide security for the rest of the season.

“We have currently five officers on site. We’re probably going to bump that up to seven or eight and also extend hours of coverage as well,” he explained. “We’ve basically re-shifted where their priorities are going to be. We’re mainly focused on the theater and the parking lots.”

The thieves took personal items, a pager, shoes, a stereo, two gym bags, and a purse in Wednesday night’s break-ins.
