Sod Being Installed at the Edward Jones Dome

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — This morning it was growing in Columbia, Illinois, tonight it’s part of the soccer pitch at the Edward Jones Dome.

Crews Wednesday installed the 40 loads of sod that will be the field for Saturday’s Inter Milan/Real Madrid soccer match.

“Its alive!” said America’s Center General Manager Marty Brooks. He tells KMOX they wanted to allow for enough time to install the sod, but “we are sensitive to the fact that there is no natural sunlight coming in, no irrigation system in the dome.”

Brooks said each piece is 200 square feet, and 42 inches wide, which guarantees the players will have sure footing.

He said installation will be completed tomorrow evening. The lines will be painted on Friday. After Saturday’s match, the grass will be returned to the sod farm.
