ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis Police are warning residents of a telephone scam that cost one man eight thousand dollars.
A 51 year old man got a phone call from someone claiming to represent the police. They told the victim he owed back taxes and would be arrested unless he settled the debt.
They instructed him to purchase eight thousand dollars in money pack cards. They then gave him another number to call , where he was told to give out the numbers on the cards.
The man contacted police later, but of course, it was too late. Police remind residents to always verify who they are talking to before they give out information, or in this case money, over the phone.
