Man Gets Prison Time for Snatching Package
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois man has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for bolting from a post office with a package containing an illicit drug without paying for it.
Twenty-six-year-old Greg Carroll of Brownstown also was ordered Thursday by a federal judge in East St. Louis to serve three years on post-prison supervised release.
Carroll pleaded guilty in April to mail theft.
Carroll testified that in 2012, he entered a post office to pick up a package containing “bath salts,” a synthetic drug which mimics the effect of cocaine. But when Carroll didn’t have the money to pay the required cash on delivery, he snatched the package from a postal employee and fled.
