Fifth Mo. Case of Cyclospora Confirmed

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Missouri health officials say a fifth case of Cyclcospora infection has been confirmed in the state.

This fifth case is in the Kansas City area. All five cases in Missouri have been in the western part of the state, none in the St. Louis area.

The Missouri Health Department’s Ryan Hobart says the symptoms of the infection are flu-like.

“Gastrointestinal problems, including diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea. Loss of appetite can also come along with it a lot of the time,” he explains.

If you have these symptoms, Hobart says, see your doctor.

The source of the illnesses in Missouri has not been located yet. About 600 Cyclospora cases have been confirmed throughout the country.
