UPDATE: Girl Killed in North St. Louis is Identified

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed in north St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

It happened on San Francisco Avenue in the Penrose neighborhood. The victim was identified by police late Thursday as 15 year old Alicia Anderson of the 4600 block of San Francisco.

A neighbor tells KMOX News that a young man came to her home, claiming his girlfriend had just been shot.

According to the man, the victim’s brother was playing with the gun when it went off. The victim was shot in the head and killed.

The brother, who is 20-years-old, was taken into custody. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said in a tweet that the man is “mentally challenged.”

The chief added today’s incident “is why gun control is important.”
