BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - Two Metro East teenagers are in jail, charged with robbing two people after offering to sell a cell phone on Craigslist.
Investigators say the female victim found an iPhone on Craigslist and, after calling about it, the seller told her not to call him but to text. After several texts, they agreed to meet in the 200 block of Bradford Place outside Belleville.
When the woman and her boyfriend arrived, police say 17-year-old Trevon Yates of East St. Louis and a 16-year-old walked up from behind the building.
One suspect said he was selling the phone and now wanted more for it. The other suspect pulled a handgun and demanded their money and their phones, then reached through the car window and hit the woman in the head with the handgun.
The suspects took money and a phone before running off but were tracked down by investigators. Both suspects are charged with armed robbery.
The name of the 16-year-old was not released since he is a juvenile.
