ELLISVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) — Don’t call it revenge, Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul said that of Wednesday’s surprise firing of City Manager Kevin Bookout.
“I was contacted by a couple of council members that said a change needed to be made,” Paul told KMOX after the sneak-attack.
The move to remove Bookout, which passed by a 4-3 vote, came at the conclusion of Wednesday’s meeting and was not on the agenda.
“Motions don’t need to be put on the agenda. It’s similar to when they moved to impeach me,” Paul said.
After the meeting Bookout refused to answer questions and left quickly.
Meantime, councilman Matt Pirrello said he, too, had no clue the firing was coming.
Councilman Mick Cahill, who made the surprise motion said he did it because he was tired of Bookout keeping information from certain council members, saying, “he wasn’t listening to us.”
There’s no word yet on who the next City Manager will be. Ellisville will probably be forced to pay Bookout 6 months of severance.
Bookout and fired City Attorney Paul Martin were key figures in the failed attempt to impeach the Mayor earlier this year.
