WASHINGTON (KMOX) — U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, said he just couldn’t stand by and watch atrocities continue in Syria. That is why he voted in favor of authorizing the president to take military action, despite having doubts earlier this week.
“The resolution that was enacted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will not allow boots on the ground for any combat operations, no American troops in Syria. It only allows and authorizes air strikes,” he said.
Durbin, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had voted against action in Iraq. He says Syria is different, and the president is only asking for limited authority.
