ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A local Maronite bishop says Eastern Rite Catholics are busy providing aid to Syrian refugees crossing the border into neighboring Lebanon.
Bishop Robert Shaheen, based at St. Raymond’s Cathedral near downtown, says the refugee crisis in Lebanon, where the Patriarch of the Maronite Catholic Church is headquartered, is big and growing larger by the day.
“This is the poor. They’re hungry, they need food,” he explained. “Lebanon is over-saturated with people. We’re sending them food, we’re sending them help so they can take care of these refugees.”
Shaheen says Lebanon is such a small country, there is nowhere to place the refugees but none are being turned away.
President Obama will address the nation on his plans for Syria Tuesday night. You can watch live on KMOX.com.
