SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (KMOX) – Sunset Hills will now allow deer hunting to control the deer population, beginning in October.
Originally, the season was set to start on September 15 but the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen decided, just for the first year, they will give themselves some time to prepare.
The ordinance, which passed 5-2, allows for bow hunting on one-acre parcels of land with the permission of the property owner. It was borrowed almost verbatim from adjoining cities but some residents, like Frank Hardy, had reservations.
“Bow hunters are wearing camouflage and [residents] are concerned about their pets and their children playing out in their yard and these bow hunters are concealed,” he told the board.
A former alderman recommended less violent solutions like rubbing soap on tree bark to keep deer away.
Deer hunting season in Sunset Hills will run from October 1 until November 15 and again from November 27 through January 15.
