BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois judge has declared a mistrial in a double murder trial.

Twenty-three year-old Randall J. McCallum was charged in the 2009 shooting deaths of 21-year-olds Kevin A. McVay and Charles D. Black of East St. Louis. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that St. Clair County Judge John Baricevic declared a mistrial Wednesday after jurors were unable to reach a verdict.

McCallum’s defense attorney, John O’Gara, said he appreciates jurors’ efforts.

McCallum is the son of former Alorton Mayor Randy McCallum, who was sentenced to prison last year on corruption charges.
