BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - An Indiana man who’s charged in the death of an Illinois baby more than four decades ago is expected in court.
An extradition hearing is expected Monday in Porter County, Ind., where Gary Warwick was arrested last Thursday.
Last week, Prosecutors in southwestern Illinois’ St. Clair County charged the 62-year-old in the 1972 death of 1-year-old Joseph Henry Abernathy III.
Authorities allege Warwick was dating the child’s mother but was not the father of the child.
Warwick was charged in the baby’s death in 1973, but the case was dismissed the next year without explanation. Investigators haven’t revealed what led to the new charges.
It’s unclear if Warwick has an attorney.
He’s jailed on $5 million bond.
