Trial Begins Today For Alleged Shooter in Investigator’s Death
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The trial of the Spanish Lake man charged in the 2010 shootout that killed a state fraud investigator is scheduled to begin this morning.
Billy Cushshon-Bey is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Police say that Bey and 18-year-old Jakeem Hicks approached Tyrone Thompson as he exited his SUV on Jerries Lane in north St. Louis County. Thompson, a former Pagedale Police Chief, pulled a weapon.
Thompson and Hicks were killed in the exchange of gunfire. Bey was wounded.
Bey later called police, saying he was a gunshot victim, but detectives say his story soon fell apart.
Investigators say it happened after Bey had lost a craps game and told friends he was going to rob somebody.
The trial is expected to end by Friday.
