ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two suspects shot by an St. Charles County Sheriff Deputy during an attempted robbery Monday night in Forest Park have been charged.

Prosecutors have charged Joshua Hunter, 20, and Jamaal Robinson, 20, with 2nd degree murder, 2 counts of attempted robbery, and 3 counts of armed criminal action.

A third suspect, Antonio Nash, 18, was shot and killed at the scene.

Police say the suspects approached the off-duty officer, 36, and his female acquaintance, 23, around 11:15 p.m. as the two were jogging at the bottom of Art Hill.

As the two stopped at a corner of the Grand Basin, a suspicious man began walking toward them, leading the officer to pull out his gun. Not soon after that, three men dressed in dark clothes and carrying a gun, announced they were going to rob the victims.

According to the probable cause statement, Nash pointed a handgun at the deputy and his acquaintance, and another suspect told them, “don’t make me kill you.”

“Fearing for his safety and the safety of his acquaintance, the off-duty deputy fired his gun, striking Suspect #1 three times in the lower abdomen,” St. Louis Police said in a statement early Tuesday.

A gun allegedly belonging to one of the robbery suspects was recovered at the scene, according to police.

The St. Charles County Sheriff Deputy has been on the force for the last 16 years.
