Barilla President: ‘I Would Never Make A Spot With A Homosexual Family’
AMES, Iowa (CBS St. Louis) – The president of the Barilla pasta company in Italy said recently that they would never show a same-sex couple in any of their advertisements.
“I would never make a spot with a homosexual family. Not out of a lack of respect but because I don’t see it like they do,” Guido Barilla was quoted as saying while on “La Zanzara,” an Italian radio show. “[My idea of] family is a classic family where the woman has a fundamental role.”
He added, “We have a different concept with regard to the gay family.”
According to United Press International, Barilla said that he is a supporter of same-sex marriage, but does not believe they should be able to adopt.
He reportedly said on the air, “As a father of multiple children, I believe it’s very hard to raise kids in a same-sex couple.”
In regards to a potential backlash, Barilla did not express much concern.
“That’s fine if they like our pasta and our communication, they can eat them,” he was quoted as saying by UPI. “Otherwise they can eat another pasta. You can’t always please everyone.”
The Barilla Group is a European and Italian food company with offices in Ames, Iowa and other cities throughout the world.
