Police Increase Patrols in Fountain Park, Lewis Place Neighborhoods

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis Police plan an increased presence in the Fountain Park and Lewis Place neighborhoods on the city’s north side due to recent crime and acts of violence .

Wednesday morning, senior commanders will conduct a roll call in Fountain Park and discuss details of a new police initiative. The roll call will be repeated at 6:30 p.m. tonight and a mobile command van will be stationed in the neighborhood today.

“Officers will patrol in uniform, driving marked police vehicle, as well as in an undercover capacity, in unmarked vehicles,” the department announced Tuesday.

Police Chief Sam Dotson will take part in the roll calls.

A similar hot-spot policing initiative was put in place in the troubled College Hill neighborhood earlier this year, resulting in nearly a dozen arrests on the first day. The strategy, highly touted by city officials, involves an increase in police patrols in areas of recent violence.
