SugarFire Smokehouse Offers Free Sandwiches to Furloughed Employees
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – SugarFire Smokehouse in Ollivette is offering free shutdown sandwiches to furloughed government employees every day until the shutdown is over.
The Government Shutdown sandwich has turkey, pork, brisket, lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo.
“Its just a big mix-up,” head chef David Molina told KMOX. He says the ingredients represent the whole situation in Washington DC.
The federal government is in its second day of “shutdown mode,” and its estimated that in St. Louis about 3.1 percent of the city’s workforce is made up of government and federal workers.
Outside on the patio several furloughed employees were enjoying their free meal.
“It feels really nice to be supported by the community,” one man, who declined to give his name said. “To have the people around really reach out and say, ‘I see you and honor you and respect you’.”
Adding the sandwich is delicious.
Another furloughed Army employee says he is frustrated that Congress hasn’t fixed the situation yet.
“We’re going to see what happens, whether Congress is going to get together or not. It doesn’t even seem like they’re trying,” he said.
