NEW YORK (AP) - For fans of the Redskins and Vikings, Falcons and Rams, it’s not time to give up.
Yes, your teams are 1-3, as are the Eagles and Raiders, but there’s hope.
Since 1990, when the NFL went to a 12-team playoffs system, 23 teams have climbed out of a 1-3 hole to make the playoffs. One of those, the 2001 Patriots, with Tom Brady in his first year as starter, won the Super Bowl.
Three others made the conference championship game after a 1-3 start: Jacksonville in 1996, losing to New England; Tennessee in 2002, losing to Oakland; and San Diego in 2007, losing to the Patriots.
Even the 0-4 teams can have a sliver of optimism: San Diego dropped its first four games, then won the AFC West.
