Kansas City Girl Struck and Killed by Ice Cream Truck

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) An 8-year-old girl has been killed after being struck by an ice cream she was trying to catch as it drove by in northern Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star reports the girl died at a hospital Friday night after being hit by the truck just after 5 p.m.

Witnesses say the girl was on a sidewalk running after the truck when she ran in front of it. Police say the driver pulled over, and when he started driving again he didn’t see the girl as she darted in front of the vehicle.

Police say the driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating. Police say the incident appears to be a tragic accident, and no citations have been issued.
