ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – We now know the identity of the man shot and killed by St. Louis police officers during a Saturday afternoon traffic stop.
Police say 25-year-old Jared Harris of St. Louis County jumped out of a car after it crashed near Garfield and Taylor.
Harris allegedly fired a shot that struck an officer in the foot.
Both responding officers fired shots back, killing Harris.
The injured officer — a 29-year-old with five years experience on the force — is in stable condition at a hospital.
Investigators say the two men who were in the car with Jared Harris have been taken into custody, with charges pending.
St. Louis (KMOX) Two St Louis Police Officers were on patrol this (Saturday) afternoon in north St Louis when they saw what they believed to be a drug deal involving a vehicle with 3 suspects inside. When officers tried to pull over the vehicle-the suspects sped away and then crashed at the intersection of Taylor and Garfield.
As the officers approached-the driver got out and opened fired-striking one of the officers in the foot. The officers returned fire and the suspect was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other 2 suspects were placed under arrest.
The officer is 29 years old–a 5 year veteran of the force. He is listed in stable condition. The deceased suspect is identified as a 25 year old black male.
St. Louis (KMOX) A St Louis Police Officer was shot around 4 o’clock this (Saturday) afternoon. He was shot in the foot in the area of Garfield and Taylor in north St Louis.
The officer is being treated at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Authorities are reporting a suspect was shot and killed and several others have been arrested but are not yet releasing any further information.
