CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) St. Louis-area residents have for decades made the trek to the Rombach family pumpkin patch in the Chesterfield valley, offering a slice of agrarian life every October as they pick their own pumpkins.
But the suburbs have grown up around the pumpkin patch, and this summer, a new 350,000-square-foot outlet mall, St. Louis Premium Outlets, opened next door.
Farm owner Chip Rombach says he grew up when there was nothing around the farm. He told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/17jABT1 ) that there’s nothing that can be done to stop development.
Rombach says the busy neighbor has its pluses drive-by business at the farm has increased. But he says the downside is that some people believe the farm went out of business to make way for the mall.
