ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Savoring the 19th National League pennant in team history, the current owner of the St. Louis Cardinals is taking a moment to salute this year’s ballclub.
“This team was on a mission from day one in Spring Training, and they just followed through,” Bill DeWitt Jr. told KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman after the final out of the NLCS, Friday night.
DeWitt Jr. gave lots of credit to series MVP Michael Wacha and to the franchise’s operations team for keeping the 22-year-old Wacha’s arm fresh during the season, “As a rookie pitcher you don’t want him to pitch too many innings. He hasn’t, even though he’s gone deep into these playoff games. He’ll be ready for the World Series.”
The Cardinals will open the World Series on Wednesday night at the ballpark of the American League champions —either Boston or Detroit.
