Florissant Bar, Scene of 2 Deadly Beatings, Closes

FLORISSANT, Mo. (KMOX) – A Florissant bar that has been the scene of two deadly incidents in less than a year is now closed.

Mayor Tom Schneider says the city was preparing to revoke Pirate’s Cove’s liquor license but Villa Del Cresta shopping center owner Mo Mangels beat him to it.

“He set in motion a provision in this lease that allowed him to cancel the lease and, in effect, kind of evict him from the premises. So they’re no longer in operation,” the mayor said.

Pirate’s Cove sat at 470 Howdershell Rd. Last week, a man died after being beaten by the brother of one of two men he had allegedly shot in the bar. Last November, a man was beaten to death during a washers tournament.

Schneider says Pirate’s Cove has seen other troubles as well. When asked if it’s a relief to have the bar closed, the mayor was adamant.

“Yes. That’s a yes. Definitely, yes.”
