Trial Begins Today for Eureka Baby Sitter in Toddler’s Death

CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) – A Eureka baby sitter accused of killing a 13-month-old girl is scheduled to stand trial today.

Jennifer Winkler, 32, is charged with second-degree murder and child abuse. Jury selection will begin Monday.

Lily Rieger died of a fractured skull and brain trauma in July, 2011, two days after Winkler called 911 to report a sick child.

Doctors at Cardinal Glennon Medical Center suspected child abuse and called police.

Police say Winkler was the only adult with the victim in the seven hours before her injury. They say they don’t know why Winkler allegedly shook the young girl.
