Get Breaking News First
There’s a new kind of billboard going up on Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City.
The signs are for schools. . .ranging from the University of Missouri to Westminster to trade schools around the state.
In central Missouri near Kingdom City, you’ll see a sign touting Webster University’s national championship chess team.
Elsewhere on eastbound I-70, the University of Missouri has a string of billboards, spelling out the word “M-I-Z-Z-O-U.”
Other schools selling themselves along the highway are M-U Science in Rolla, S-I-U in Carbondale and Edwardsville and Fontbonne, Lindenwood and Ranken on the St. Louis side.
The University of Missouri at Columbia, now in the Southeastern Conference, has put billboards up all over the southeastern states.
Vince Miller at D-D-I Media, one of the area’s largest billboard comapnies, says the colleges are advertising so heavily because they’re all fighting for a shinking pool of prospects.
