Missouri State Rep Questions Legality of Governor’s Order on Gay Rights

Greg Branson

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) – Was Missouri Governor Nixon’s executive order on gay marriage legal? That’s what a local lawmaker wants to find out.

Lake St. Louis State Rep. Chuck Gatschenberger is asking for an Attorney General’s opinion on the legality of the governor’s order, allowing tax benefits to gay couples married in other states.

Gatschenberger says the voters of Missouri overwhelmingly passed an amendment to the state constitution, defining marriage as between a man and woman. He says the fact that the governor’s order ignores this part of the Constitution is a problem.
