Officials Break Ground on CWE Whole Foods Development

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – Construction officially began Tuesday on the Whole Foods store and City Walk in the Central West End.

After helping to turn over the first ceremonial shovels of dirt, Ron Silverman with Mills Properties talked about the benefits of the new development at Euclid and West Pine.

“This is going to be a game-changer for this part of Euclid,” he said. “It will match essentially what is up just a little farther north and make this a much more vibrant part of the city.”

The natural and organic grocery will inhabit the ground floor of the City Walk. A parking garage, a fitness center and 176 apartments will be in the development as well.

Mayor Francis Slay calls it a big win for the Central West End and the entire city.

“It shows that people see value in the city,” said Slay. “It’s a great place to do business, there is a big market for retailers like [Whole Foods].”

The Whole Foods and City Walk on Euclid is expected to be completed in late 2015.
