What began as snow over the weekend  turned to water and then froze again.   That produced some major headaches for drivers.

Around six last night, a freezing drizzle sent the salt trucks out again after police reported numerous cars and trucks sliding on new ice.

In Chesterfield a car slid off a road and hit a house. Elsewhere in west county, an ambulance slid off the road. No one was seriously injured.

A number of rural schools, in both Missouri and Illinois plan to close today due to the weather and, in Mt. Olive, Illinois, teachers say they’ll strike today for want of a contract. The Mt. Olive school board plans a meeting tonight.
