Influenza Activity Increases Across St. Louis Region

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – More influenza cases are being seen across the St. Louis area as flu activity picks up during the month of December.

57 new cases were reported last week in St. Louis County for a total of 140 thus far this season.

Dr. Cassie Haddox is an emergency room physician at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County.

“We had one in October, six in November, and then seven in December so we’re beginning to get into the flu season. It’s definitely picking up some,” she said.

Five confirmed cases have been seen at Saint Louis University Hospital since Thanksgiving.

187 new cases were reported across Missouri last week for a total of 628 statewide. That is nearly double the five-year average for this time of year.

Haddox says it’s not too late to receive a flu shot and she advises area residents to do so.
