Man Accused of Stealing Gun, Shooting Security Guard in East St. Louis

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) – A man is in custody for allegedly taking a security guard’s gun and shooting him in the foot during an argument.

It happened Wednesday at a public housing facility in the 2900 block of Waverly Avenue in East St. Louis.

The Belleville News Democrat reports the suspect had been banned from the building for unknown reasons. When the 22-year-old guard asked him to leave the two men got into a physical struggle. That’s when the suspect grabbed the guard’s gun and shot him.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the 4:30 p.m. shooting.

The guard is expected to survive, his name has not been released.
