ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-Three people have been rescued from a burning building on the south edge of downtown.

Captain Dan Sutter tells KMOX that firefighters responding to what was supposed to be a vacant building at 17th and Pappin, found smoke coming from the fifth floor and three people inside, including one trapped by the fire, “They were able to locate the one victim, that his egress had been cut off, they forced a number of doors and they removed him to a stairwell that was not involved in fire and walked him down, as well as the other two.”

Sutter says they don’t know what the people were doing there or what started the fire.
