Mayor Slay’s Niece Survives Carjacking
ST. LOUIS – (KMOX) – Mayor Francis Slay’s niece survived a carjacking at gunpoint in south St. Louis and police have arrested two suspects.
Deputy Airport Director Gerard Slay says his 25-year-old daughter and her boyfriend were carjacked Friday near the Lowes at Interstate 55 and Loughborough Avenue.
“My daughter and her boyfriend were coming home from her house and two guys carjacked them at gunpoint,” Gerard Slay said.
No one was hurt, he says, but the thieves drove off in the boyfriend’s car.
“Her boyfriend’s car has got one of these things if it gets too far away from the key, it shuts off, and it did,” Gerard Slay said, “And so, apparently they were in another car that had some girl’s cell phone in it and the police were tracking it. So they tracked the car and then they followed the footprints in the snow up to their house, the house they went in to. They caught them.”
Mayor Slay and Police Chief Sam Dotson did not return calls seeking comment on the alleged incident. It was Gerard Slay who, when reached by phone, agreed to a taped interview describing what happened.
“Well, I’m glad it’s over,” he said, “I heard them the next day at work saying some guy in New Jersey got shot in the head (when) they carjacked him. Without question. So anything can happen. You gotta be careful.”
