Rayvonte Rice Earns Big Ten Honor

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) – Illinois guard Rayvonte Rice has won his second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the basketball season.

The conference said Monday that Rice shares this week’s award with Michigan State guard Keith Appling.

Rice scored 28 points Saturday in Illinois’ 74-60 win over Illinois-Chicago. Sixteen of those points came in a second-half surge that put the Flames away.

Rice is currently the second-leading scorer in the Big Ten with 18.2 points a game. Penn State’s D.J. Newbill leads the conference with 18.9 a game.

Rice is from Champaign but transferred to Illinois from Drake.

He also was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
